Beyond physical training and posting of colors, students in the Clinton High School JROTC program are creating SPAM.
SPAM are goals that are Specific, Positive, Achievable, and Measurable. Students in the class created a five year plan to gain an understanding of what plans and the future really means. Students had to theoretically, hypothetically, and literally consider what is a short-term verses a long-term goal prior to putting it down on paper.
Students were not given limits as to what they could plan to do, but rather were encouraged to make this real for themselves. Through this assignment, teacher Glenn McNorial provoked the students to consider options that are available far beyond high school and not just in the military.
Throughout the class, students were asked to examine their five-year plan and to think critically about what they had written. Students were given the opportunity to share with the class their goals.
