Hobbton High School held a Veterans Day event Thursday morning to celebrate Veterans Day. Two veterans and one active duty service member spoke of their experiences.

Hobbton Student Government President Bradley Gurrola was the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Lakewood High School’s JROTC presented the Colors for the event. Hobbton’s Show Choir sang the National Anthem and God Bless America. Principal Jennifer Daughtry welcomed the visitors and the student body.

Speakers for the day were: Stanley Royal, an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam era, Chris Cantrell, Hobbton’s SRO, a veteran of Desert Storm and Operation Just Cause. The final speaker was Bryan Martinez, a 2010 graduate of Hobbton and currently serving in the U.S. Army.

The Hobbton Band, under the direction of Drum Major Madison Warren, performed a modified version of this year’s competition show “BB-55 North Carolina Showboat,” a tribute to the battleship USS North Carolina and its contributions to World War II.

Band director Geoffery Tart played a stirring rendition of Taps to end the event.
