Valentine’s Day is a special day for everyone and the Harrells Community Center Committee is doing their part in trying to make sure the holiday is even more special for all fathers and daughters in the area.

According to Lethia Lee, one of the event coordinators, the Harrells Community Center Committee will be hosting a Father/Daughter dance in February. The dance is planned for Feb. 13 from 4-8 p.m. at the Sampson County Cooperative Extension building on Hwy. 421.

“We have many fundraisers throughout the year and this is just one of the ones we will hold,” Lee said during a telephone interview earlier in the week. “We are hoping this will be a very successful event.”

Helping coordinate the event is Sandra Spearman, who had the initial idea to hold the dance. Spearman had her granddaughter in mind when she thought of the idea of having a special dance for fathers and daughters.

“Sandra wanted to have something special that her granddaughter and son could attend together,” Lee said. “The dance will be a good opportunity for fathers and daughters to bond.”

Lee said the dance won’t be the only activity at the event. There will be motivational speakers and mentors available to talk with the girls and their dads.

“This will be a great chance for men to come together and spend some time with their daughters,” Lee added.

The dance is a great opportunity for any age, young and old. Lee said she can see the fathers holding their little girls up and spinning them around the dance floor.

“I really want this to be successful,” Lee shared. “Our hope is that the fathers and daughters will have a great time.”

According to Lee, all guests will be recognized during the dance, because all girls, she said, are special.

If a young girl doesn’t have a father in her life, Lee said any male role models are welcome to come and bring the girls to the dance.

Dress for the event is semi-formal. Refreshments will be served.
