Tourism director welcomed

Sheila Graves Barefoot, the new tourism director for the Sampson County Convention and Visitors Bureau, was officially welcomed by the Sampson County Board of Commissioners at its recent meeting. ‘I’m excited about my job opportunity with Sampson County,’ said Barefoot, who is married to husband Jimmy. The couple have five children. They are currently living in White Lake but will soon be settling in Newton Grove. ‘I’m looking forward to my job and working with the tourism bureau. I look forward to 2016.’ As director of the local organization, Barefoot’s primary responsibilities are to promote and market Sampson County to the masses. Ray Jordan, chairman of the SCCVB’s Board of Directors, said Barefoot’s 30 years of administrative and marketing experience are a boon to the county. She was selected after the CVB received more than 40 applications from nationwide advertisements. Ten were interviewed and Barefoot was chosen from that pool. ‘We are very excited to have her with us,’ Jordan stated.
