A Salemburg man is facing a felony charge for allegedly engaging in “inappropriate contact” with a 9-year-old female, according to Sampson County Sheriff’s authorities.
Tito Enrique Santiago-Torres, 42, of 3302 Bearskin Road, Salemburg, was charged with indecent liberties with a child. His arrest report was filed Tuesday at the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office.
Santiago-Torres was served the felony charge on Monday at the Sheriff’s Office. He was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $50,000 secured bond.
Limited information is often made available by investigators regarding sex-related cases, especially those involving an underage victim. Lt. Marcus Smith said the charge stems from an investigation launched after the victim’s mother filed a complaint. The alleged incident was reported to sheriff’s authorities last year.
“The victim’s mother filed a complaint with investigators about inappropriate contact the victim reportedly had with a male family member,” Smith stated relaying details of the investigation. “As a result an investigation was launched into the allegations and enough probable cause was established to obtain charges on the suspect.”
Smith noted that the victim is a 9-year-old female. No further information could be provided in the case, he said.
Santiago-Torres has a court date of Feb. 12.
