Area churches celebrating Black History Month

The New Church of Christ, Faison, will observe The Prophets Are Here service, with different guests all month. On Feb. 3-5, the guest is Prophet Apostle S.E. McKinney of Wilson. On Feb. 10-12, the guest is Prophetess Apostle Gwendolyn Gibbs, New Bern. On Feb. 17-19, the guest is Prophetess Dr. Evelena Oliver, Warsaw. On Saturday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m., Clinton Men’s Fellowship Auxiliary will host Prostate Awareness Seminar at Union Grove Church of Christ, Clinton. The guest speaker is Dr. James Smith III, president of the North Carolina Minority Prostate Cancer Awareness Action Team, who will be on hand to present various medical updates, information and health news regarding this life-threatening disease. The Bible Institute registration will be extended to Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Western Assembly Disciples of Christ Churches. This will also be the first day of class. FMI call 910-596-8335, 910-628-9335 or 919-631-6068.

On Saturday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m., there will be a plate sale sponsored by the Pastor Aide Committee at Mingle Hill Disciples of Christ Church, Salemburg. On the menu: Fried or bake chicken/barbecue/ green beans/potato salad/cole slaw/rolls/cakes and tea.The plates are $7.50 and combination plates $8.50. A sandwich, cake and tea for $5.50. On Saturday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m., quarterly meeting will be held at Union Star Freewill Baptist Church, Clinton.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m., regular morning service will be held at Big Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Clinton. The guest preacher is the Rev. James A. Mitchell, who will minister the word and the fellowship choir will render the music.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m., Black History service will be observed at St. Peter United Holiness Church, Keener. A guest speaker will do a tribute honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The pastor, Elder Bryan Farland will minister the word, and the combine choir will render the music. Following the service, there will be an old fashion dinner. You can dress old fashion if you like, and everyone is welcome.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m., regular worship service will be held at Beaver Dam Missionary Baptist Church, on Odom Road, Clinton. The messenger, the Rev. Jeremy Jones of Cary, will minister the word and the mass choir will render the music.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m., regular morning service will be held at Lisbon St. Missionary Baptist Church, Clinton. The guest speaker is the Rev. Dr. Thomas of First Missionary Baptist Church, Warsaw, will minister the word and the gospel choir will render the music.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, will be six years that the Rev. Thomas R. Farrow, Jr. has been serving here at First Baptist Church as Pastor. This year we will have two evenings of worship and fellowship. On Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Leslie Morrisey, choir and congregation of Greater Six Runs Missionary Baptist Church, Turkey. On Friday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m., the guest speaker will be Bishop Varnie Fullwood, choir and congregation of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Clinton. A repast will follow on Friday night after service.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, at 3 p.m., Missionaries on a Mission Program with 100 Ladies in Red or White, will be held at Union Grove Church of Christ, 716 Lisbon St., Clinton. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Trish Harleston, daughter of Mrs. Hilda Williams of Clinton. Sampson Chapel Church of Christ Male Chorus will render the music. On Sunday, Feb. 7, at 3 p.m., Pastor’s Aide program will be held at Cooper Chapel United Holiness Church, Clinton. The guest is the Rev. Abe Elliott and church family of Elliott Chapel Church, Fayetteville.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, at 3 p.m., Black History program will be observed at Piney Green Disciples Church, Newton Grove. The guest speaker is Deacon Darrick King of Greater Six Runs Missionary Baptist Church, Turkey. The guest choir Point Level Disciples of Christ Church, Clinton, will render the music. Refreshments will be served following the service.

On Feb. 27, at 6 p.m., a Red and White program will be held with guest speaker Minister Sandra James and Union Grove Freewill Baptist Church choir.

Martin Luther King Jr. rehearsal will be held at Union Grove Disciple of Christ Church, Clinton. The rehearsal schedule is Feb. 8-15 at 7 p.m. We are asking all church choir members to come and participate in the program. FMI call Elder Louise Royal 910-260-2109 or Mrs. T. Clowney 910-260-1210.

On Saturday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m., Point Level Disciples of Christ Church, Clinton, will have their Usher Workshop at the Western Assembly Headquarter Building.

On Saturday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m., Bobby Herring will preach his Initial sermon at Union Grove Freewill Baptist Church, Keener.

On Sunday, Feb. 14, at 11:30 a.m., regular morning worship service will be held at Greater Mt. Calvary Holiness Church, Clinton. Minister Tanisha Boykin will minister the word, and the combine choir will render the music. During the service there will be a surprise Valentine Sweetheart. Several speakers will speak on Black History. An “Old Fashion Dinner” will be served following the morning service.

On Sunday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m., Home Mission Silver Tea will be held at Point Level Disciples of Christ Church. Charity Disciples Church is the guest.

On Sunday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m., Point Level Disciples of Christ Church will observe their Black History program featuring African Attire. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Letaz S. Jones, Sr. of Strickland Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Four Oaks.
