Chad Stocks loves his dogs Ginger and Fuzzy, and he loves sharing them with others in an effort to put a smile on someone’s face.
“They actually protect the neighborhood,” Stocks, owner and general manager of Badcock Home Furniture & More in Elizabethtown, said about the mother and daughter duo who are a terrier mix. “I got neighbors, a couple acres over, and they actually visit them. So they feel that they’re a part of their family as well.”
The pet lover has always had some type of animal as a member of his family and says that the majority of his employees have some variety of a pet. It’s one of the reasons Badcock Home Furniture & More became the title sponsor of The Sampson Independent’s annual Cutest Pet Contest, which began accepting submissions today at www.clintonnc.com.
“I think it’s great,” Stocks said about the now annual contest. “You can go through the contest and see the different qualities in each animal. Pets bring joy to everyone.”
Shannon Best, media director for The Sampson Independent, is thrilled to be able to bring the contest back to readers.
“We always get excited about the Cutest Pest Contest,” Best said. “I think of my dog Blaze as my child and I know there are tons of people in the county that feel the same.”
The contest begins today and folks with pets can submit their photos online by visiting The Sampson Independent website (www.clintonnc.com) and clicking on the contest logo on the right side of the page. A valid email address is required for contestants to participate.
Entries will be accepted through March 6. The overall winner receives $100, and $50 will be given to the second, third, fourth and fifth place winners.
Submissions can be accepted throughout the contest, but with voting beginning on Feb. 21, people are encouraged to get their submissions in earlier. The contest ends at midnight, March 6.
Prizes will be awarded to winners, thanks to the generosity of merchants such as Badcock Home Furniture & More of Elizabethtown, Perrine, Wiley & Potts Orthodontics, Clinton Drug Company, Show Rooms Furniture and Tram Road Animal Hospital.
Anyone with adorable pets is encouraged to enter the contest and visit the website frequently to check out the competition and other cool pets, Stocks said.
“Everyone always enjoys sharing pictures of their pets,” Stocks said. “The contest and photos that are submitted are just something people look forward to each year.”
Sherry Matthews, publisher and editor for The Sampson Independent, offered thanks for all five contest sponsors for their willingness to participate.
“We couldn’t do these contests without our partner sponsors,” Matthews said. “We hope animal-lovers will enter their pets in the contest and we hope they will frequent our sponsors, being sure to thank them for helping make this contest possible.”
The Cutest Pets, Matthews said, was one of the Independent’s most popular contests. “It is a reader favorite for certain. People absolutely love their pets and want to show them off. We are providing them the venue to do just that, so we urge everyone to visit the website, click on the contest logo and enter their pet. And when the time comes, we urge everyone to participate in voting.”
