‘Suspicious’ death on Alex Benton Road under investigation

NEWTON GROVE — The “suspicious” death of a woman on Alex Benton Road is being investigated by Sampson County Sheriff’s authorities, who said the female victim died as a result of life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, deputies were dispatched to assist emergency medical personnel with a deceased female on Alex Benton Road. Through the investigation it was determined by sheriff’s authorities “that the deceased female victim had succumb to life threatening injuries,” the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Her name has not been released.

Currently, there is an ongoing probe into the incident by investigators and the death is being treated as suspicious in nature, sheriff’s officials said.

“At this time no further information is being released about the circumstances surrounding the incident, nor the victim’s identity,” the Sheriff’s Office statement read. The location on Alex Benton Road is similarly unknown. The road extends north from U.S. 701, just south of Newton Grove, through intersections with N.C. 50/55 and U.S. 13, eventually ending near the Johnston County line.
