Kids can make a difference when it comes to raising money for cancer research.

The annual Kids Walk, a fundraising event for Relay For Life, will be held Friday, June 3, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Clinton High School. Registration for the event will go through May 3.

“Kids Walk is a fun-filled celebration designed for young people to participate and get involved in Relay for Life and help fight cancer,” Michelle Parker, organizer of Kids Walk, said.

All funds raised during the Kids Walk will go towards Relay for Life, which collects money to be used for cancer research and the American Cancer Society. Each child who participates is asked to raise at least $25.

“Kids are invited to walk around the track and enjoy a number of activities and games,” Parker said.

During the Kids Walk event, there will be a limbo contest, tug of war, parachute game, hula hoop contest, line dancing and inflatable bounce house and more for the kids to enjoy.

“Kids Walk not only raises money for the American Cancer Society, but it also teaches our kids about the importance of getting involved and participating in community activities,” Parker added. “These young kids walking will one day be our Relay for Life team captains and chairpersons. They will be our Relay for Life leaders.”

In years past, the Kids Walk has brought in over 100 participants and Parker said she is hoping for more this year.

“Our Kids Walk numbers were down last year,” Parker said. “We are really hoping that more children will participate this year.”

Registration forms are available at any school office, Matthews Drugs and Cards and Gifts, Sweet Frog and the Relay for Life website. Registration is $10 per child, which includes a T-shirt.

“I encourage all kids to participate in Kids Walk this year and every year,” Parker noted. “It’s a night of fellowship with family and friends as people of all ages come together to fight cancer.”
