Think your kid is cute? Most parents throughout Sampson County think they have one or more, and many of them are ready to prove it by entering The Sampson Independent’s Cutest Kids contest that went live this morning.

Registering for the contest is easy. Just go to www.clintonnc.com, click on the Cutest Kids logo and let the fun begin. Follow the simple steps to enter one or more children in the contest, using their photographs to entice voter to select that smile and big, bright eyes as the cutest kid.

Participation in the contest is free, you only need a valid email address to register. Submissions for the contest can continue to be submitted through May 29, however, voting begins May 15 and will end May 29. Winners will be announced June 1. Updates on who is leading will be run periodically in the paper.

“It’s is best for people to get their submissions in before the 15th,” Media Director Shannon Best said.

Having a cute kid could pay off. There will be a grand prize winner who will receive a $100 prize. Three category winners will be chosen and win a $50 prize. The grand prize winner cannot win the category and their overall prize. For this year’s contest, there are three categories — ages birth – 3; ages 4-7; and ages 8-12.

Title sponsor for the contest is Cape Fear Propane, who says they chose to be a sponsor because kids are one of the greatest assets in Sampson County.

“One of the greatest things about our community are our kids, and Cape Fear Propane is so honored to sponsor a contest that showcases these children,” Jason Pearson, general manager, said. “I hope everyone will participate by entering their wonderful children into the contest.”

Secondary sponsors are Clinton Drug Company for the birth to age 3 category; Ford of Clinton for the ages 4-7 category; and Wiley & Potts Orthodontics for the ages 8-12 category.

Community involvement and the children are exactly why many businesses join as one of the sponsors for the contest.

Best said this contest is one of her favorites done by the newspaper, much like she enjoys the Cutest Pets contest and Cutest Costume contest.

“This is one of my favorite contests throughout the year, because we get to see some of the wonderful children throughout our community and get a glimpse of their sparkling personalities,” Best said. “Proud parents, family members, and friends get to enter and vote for their special child in hopes of gaining the title of Cutest Kid in Sampson County. I hope everyone joins in the fun.”

Submitting and voting are easy tasks. Simply visit the website and click on the logo for the Cutest Kids and follow the steps.

All of it is made simple, assured Sherry Matthews, editor and publisher of The Sampson Independent, to encourage participation. The contest is all about community involvement.

“We don’t want this to be difficult; we want it to be easy and fun, which it should be,” she said.

Matthews offered thanks to the advertising sponsors for their participation and belief in the fun and advantages of the online contest, and urged residents to frequent those businesses and offer their thanks as well.

“Without our advertising partners, these contests, which so many love, simply wouldn’t be possible. I hope others will support them the way they support this community and these projects,” Matthews stressed.
