Agents with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Special Investigation Division were able to seize several marijuana plants and make an arrest, thanks to a tip about the illegal drug.

According to Sheriff’s Captain Eric Pope, the division received information May 25 about marijuana plants growing near a pond at L.P. Brewer Road and Beulah Road, near Clinton. Responding to the tip, agents located 36 plants growing in the area and seized them. The investigation led agents to 44 L.P. Brewer Road and the arrest of Johnny Preston Brewer.

Once at the residence, Pope said agents were able to obtain a search warrant for the property and later executed the warrant, locating items consistent with manufacturing marijuana inside the residence. Brewer was arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana, maintain a dwelling for the manufacture of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

An unsecured bond was set at $10,000 and Brewer was later released.
