Preparing now for city’s Christmas events
by Janna Bass Contributing columnist
It is hard to believe that the Clinton-Sampson Chamber of Commerce is busy preparing for the Christmas season, but we are. Preparation is already going into events such as Christmas in the City and the Christmas in Clinton Parade. Thank you to each of our volunteers, committee members, and business partnerships that ensure these events are a huge success for the local community.
Last year’s annual “Christmas in the City” event once again received rave reviews. Over 400 guests enjoyed the event’s activities, which included museum tours, carriage and hay rides, gingerbread decorating, a silent auction fundraiser, live entertainment, and more. Needless to say, we are excited about what 2013 holds. The Clinton Main Street Program, City of Clinton, Sampson County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Sampson County History Museum, Sampson Arts Council, and the Clinton-Sampson Chamber of Commerce are partnering to present the third annual Christmas in the City on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013.
It is my honor to serve on this committee and be responsible for the silent auction portion of the evening. Because of the generosity of donations from local businesses and event attendees bidding on the variety of items, last year’s silent auction raised over $1,200 for Sampson County’s No. 1 tourist attraction, the Sampson County History Museum. We are looking forward to another great event with an evening full of festival activities and another silent auction to raise funds for the History Museum. If you or your business/organization would like to donate an item, please give us a call at 910-592-6177.
Last week, the Christmas Parade Committee had their first meeting as well. I am excited to say that our office receives calls daily inquiring about the Christmas Parade and we have already had several applications submitted. The Christmas in Clinton Parade is truly a staple to our county seat and we look forward to another great family fun event.
This year’s Christmas Parade will be on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. in downtown Clinton. If you are interested in being a part of the Parade, visit our website at www.clintonsampsonchamber.org to view the application or give us a call at 592-6177, we are looking forward to another great year.
Thank you again to each of the volunteers and committed business and community leaders that come together to ensure these festive events are a part of Sampson County. It is because of the partnerships and strong attendance, these events are able to continue and grow. We look forward to another festival holiday season.
