A 62-year-old Sampson County woman was killed this morning when the vehicle she was a passenger in collided with another at the intersection of Roanoke and Wyre Branch roads.
Reports just released from the N.C. Highway Patrol show that Anita Benson, of 2475 Church Road, Clinton died at the scene just before 8 a.m. this morning.
She was a passenger in a 2000 Dodge driven by Aaron King, 31, of 2475 Church Road, Clinton. He was traveling west on Roanoke Road when he struck a car, driven by Severa Antunez-Bueno, 29, of 91 Thornton Road, Dunn, that failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Wrye Branch and Roanoke and pulled into his path.
King was transported to Sampson Regional Medical Center and later transferred to UNC Hospitals by helicopter. A condition report was not immediately available. A second passenger in his vehicle, a juvenile, was transported to SRMC with minor injuries.
The accident, reports show, is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
Tuesday’s fatality is the third on Sampson County roadways this year.
