A 26-year-old Sampson County man remained behind bars Monday afternoon, charged with a laundry list of felonies leveled locally as well as an outstanding warrant from Virginia.

Jeremiah Tymell King, of 2407 Hobbton Highway, is facing local charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuanapossession a weapon with an altered serial number, and a fugitive warrant from Virginia.

He was taken into custody around 2:45 Sunday afternoon on Elizabeth Street, after Clinton Police Cpl. Asheligh Peterson pulled the vehicle he was reportedly a passenger in over for a traffic stop.

Initial reports show that K-9 officer Zeusa alerted on the vehicle, giving probable cause for the officer to conduct a search which turned up a .22-caliber revolver and 43 individual bags of marijuana.

The driver and two passengers, early reports show, were taken to the Clinton Police Department, where it was discovered that King had the outstanding Virginia warrant. An unknown second passenger fled the scene, reportedly with a bag of what is believed to be marijuana with him at the time.

No details were provided on the vehicle’s driver, and only King was taken into custody.

He was placed under a $150,000 bond for the Clinton charges and a $100,000 bond for the outstanding Virginia warrant. No trial date was listed in reports.

Clinton Police Chief Jay Tilley said more information would likely be available later this week.
