Fire officials remained mum Thursday over the cause of a Wednesday afternoon fire at 109 W. Faison St. in Clinton, saying only that an investigation was ongoing.

The fire, which was in a multi-unit dwelling, was extinguished by Clinton firefighters — and units responding mutual aid from various areas of the county — shortly after it started, with what appeared to be minimal damage to the structure.

The Wednesday incident was promptly turned over to Sampson County Fire Marshall Jerry Cashwell.

Cashwell said that it was a room and content fire.

“The fire was extinguished in short order,” he said. “There were no injuries from the fire.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and Cashwell declined to comment any further about the incident. The multi-unit dwelling is managed by Bass Rentals.
