An organization at Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church is called the “Young at Heart.” Made up of more mature church members, the group’s primary purposes are both religious and social. Activities in which members have participated include trips to various locations in North Carolina as well as out of state adventures. Other programs have included presentations by local people of interest and service projects.
A recent service project of the group was called “Gift of the Heart.” The Young at Heart decided to assemble packets to be used by the Presbyterian Church USA in response to disasters throughout the world. Each packet included a hand towel, wash cloth, tooth brush, comb, band aids, nail clippers, and soap.
The packets will be sent to a storage facility until there is a need for them in a disaster impacted community. Dr. Jim Moran, Pastor of Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church stated that, “A primary mission of GMPC is to mission to others in need. Surely, this illustrates the church’s concern for those who cry out for the love and assistance of fellow Christians.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance enables congregations of the Presbyterian Church (USA) to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic events.
