The Midway Lady Raiders volleyball team hosted the Heide Trask Lady Titans Thursday and came away 3-2 winners.

Midway took the first set 25-20. A service ace by Amber Poole broke a 17-17 tie and the Lady Raiders coasted from that point. A Kelsey Pondo kill on the 23rd point help clinch game 1.

Game 2 went to the visitors. The score was knotted at 12, but Midway could not seize the momentum. Trask prevailed 25-18.

The 3rd game was won by the home team. After a 9-9 tie, the Lady Raiders led the rest of the way, posting a 25-21 final.

It appeared for awhile that Midway would dispose of Trask in 4 games. In a game highlighted by 3 consecutive aces by Poole, the Lady Raiders built a 17-10 lead. The Lady Titans then scored 7 straight to tie. The Raiders also led 23-18, but Trask went on another 7 point run to win 25-23.

Midway took the early lead in game five and held on for the 15-11 win to claim victory.

“We got t-shirts made that say ’team work makes a dream work’ “explained Midway coach Jennifer Naylor. “Our dream is to go get everybody one game at a time and that’s what we did tonight.”

Naylor praised the work of Poole, who had 16 kills and 22 assists, and Cassidy Strickland who provided 28 assists.

The Lady Raiders are 2-3 Four County Conference play and will travel to West Bladen on Tuesday.
