After traveling almost 3 hours, including stops, to play Bartlett-Yancey in Yanceyville, the Midway Raider volleyball team fell in 4 sets: 23-25; 25-15; 25-18; 25-20.

The Lady Raiders took the first set, but couldn’t keep up the pace. Senior Cassidy Strickland was named Player of the Game.

Head coach Jennifer Naylor considered her team and this past season a success despite ending in the first round of the playoffs.

“The energy and fight was there throughout the trip and the match. The girls started off strong, but we could never get our defensive errors under control. We ended up letting that get the best of us, creating opportunities for the other team,” Coach Naylor explained.

Standouts via stats were Hannah Hubbard with 14 kills. Cassidy Strickland was named the player of the game, serving 10 rally points and adding 14 assists, according to Coach Naylor.

“Overall, the season has been a success. The winner in the book, isn’t always the true winner in the game. We have evolved into not only better volleyball players, but people and citizens to contribute to everyday society. I wish nothing but the best for these girls as we come to an end, graduating 4 seniors,” she continued.

The four seniors were Cassidy Strickland, Michaela Godwin, Ivey Parker, and Morgan Tew.

Other stats showed Amber Poole with 6 assists, 4 kills, and 4 digs; Savannah Bullins, 2 kills; Kelsey Pondo, 8 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 digs; Margaret Tew, 3 kills, and 2 digs; Savannah Spell with 5 digs.

The Raiders ended their season at 8-6 in the conference and 8-12 overall.
