Midway’s soccer team honored their seniors Monday with a 5-0 win over West Bladen


Seniors David Gonzalez, Alex Boggs, Tony Bolanos, Baltazar Barajas, and Faustino Espino all started in their last regularly scheduled home game. They will have a home makeup game on Thursday versus Pender.


The Raiders did not take long in getting the first goal of the game. Jonathan Garcia hit pay dirt on an assist from Jovani Espino less than 3 minutes into the game.


Midway’s second goal was actually knocked in by the West Bladen goalie on a corner kick by Faustino Espino. The ball went off Garcia’s head before hitting the goalie. That goal occurred with 21:53 remaining in the first half.


Goal number 3 came with 5:53 showing on the clock. Nestor Antonio found the back of the goal with the assist from Jonah Royal. The Raiders led 3-0 at intermission.


Just 15 seconds into the second half, Garcia made it 4-0. Faustino Espino assisted on that play.


The final goal was provided by Jonathan Espino with his brother Faustino getting credit for the assist.


The Raiders improve to 5-7 in Four County Conference play. They will travel to Union Wednesday before hosting Pender on Thursday.


“It was a good night for the seniors,” remarked Midway head coach Allen McLamb. “They went out and did their jobs so I could get my young guys in to get more experience. I think it was a good night for everybody. We’re playing the best we’ve played all year right now. We’ll see how it continues the next 2 games.”
