The Lady Dark Horses have started the basketball season on a high note, getting their second win against a bigger school. On Tuesday, they downed 4A Cape Fear, 71-58.

Clinton head coach Chris Owens said the win was made possible by a combination of good shooting and tough rebounding.

The Horses took a first quarter lead and never looked back. The score by quarters: 18-11; 38-25; 61-40; 71-58.

Leading the offensive battle was freshman Makayla Boykin with 30 points. Brielle Mitchelle, with 15 points, Kristin Glasper, with 10 points, and Zoey Harris, with 7, evened out the scoring. Jasmine Fryer chipped in 4 points and DeAsia Edwards scored 5 points.

“Our defense was the key. Our man-to-man pressure gave them problems. We were able to make some easy baskets and we shot the ball pretty good,” Coach Owens said.

Clinton’s record moves to 2-0 and they travel to Lakewood on Friday.
