The Leopards took down the Rebels in a strong showing of defense and offense, beating North Duplin 16-56 at the Duplin County school.
In the first quarter, Lakewood took control quickly, scoring 15 points, but only allowing the Rebels 2 points.
At halftime, the Leopards were up 8-31. They continued on this same course and North Duplin couldn’t do anything about it, ending the 3rd quarter with a score of 14-47.
Leading all scorers was Justina Henry with 12 points. She was followed close behind by Alexis Williams with 10 points; Briana Evans, 8; Rashyda Parker, 7; Chanel McLellon, 6; Kiara Rich, 5; and Bianca Boone and Jada Moore, each with 4 points.
For the Rebels, Deja Aycock was leading scorer with 8 points. Adding to the points were Jordan Jones, 5 points; Shaily McCarty, 2; , and Hermarie Rodriquez, 1 point.
The Leopards will play again the last weekend of this month in the Nathan Gay Holiday Tournament at Union. It will be held on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 27 and 28. The time has yet to be determined.
North Duplin will also play in a Christmas tournament at Kenan Auditorium versus Wallace-Rose Hill on Dec., 27th.
Lakewood’s next conference game is Friday, Jan. 3 in the Leopard gym.
