It was a nail-biter of a ballgame, but the Leopard varsity couldn’t hold on for the win at North Duplin on Thursday. The Rebels came away with the 72-66 overtime win against Lakewood.
The game was back and forth between the two teams for most of the first half and the score at halftime was all bundled up at 24 each. The Leopards had a 3 point lead going into the last 8 minutes of the game with a score of 33-36, but the Rebels gained enough ground to tie the score at 54-all at the end of regulation.
In the overtime period, North Duplin pulled ahead by 6 point for a 72-66 overtime win.
Leading the scoring for Lakewood was Willie Henry with 14 points.
For North Duplin, the top scorers were Daron Goodman with 20 points; Cody Ivey with 17; and Trey Pate with 18 points. Also helping the Rebel cause was James Britt with 4 points; Boone McNeil, 3; Cedrick Kornegay, 4; Savon Scott, 4; and Demarcus Pearsall, 2 points.
North Duplin will play in a Christmas tournament at Kenan Auditorium against Wallace-Rose Hill on Dec. 27th. Lakewood will play in the Nathan Gay Holiday Tournament at Union on Dec. 27.
