Clinton traveled to Spartan territory Tuesday night, and dominated the basketball court. The JV Spartans didn’t know what had hit them when the Dark Horses began finding the basket from everywhere. The end result of the match up was a Clinton victory, 87-59.

In the first quarter, both teams started out slowly, but it was the Horses who jumped out with the first lead, 18-14. It was still a tight game in the second, Union scoring 15 and Clinton holding on to their lead by scoring 20. However, after halftime, it was obvious the two teams had different mentalities. Clinton came out firing, tacking on a whopping 31 points in the third, while Union only managed to add 18. The fourth quarter showed a good rally from Union, scoring 12 points, but it was Clinton who came out the victors. The Horses brought home the win, 87-59.

Head coach for the JV Horses, Coach Lamb, said, “It was a good game. The first two quarters, Union came out with a high intensity. In the third quarter, our trap prevailed against them and we started to get some fast breaks. Overall, we want to give credit to the fans and the parents for their support. Tonight we came out victorious.”

Leading scorers for the Dark Horses were R.Skinner with 26 points, K. Dessus with 12 points, E. Howard with 8 points.

Coach Register, Union’s head coach, said, “I thought for us tonight it was a tale of two halves. I’m really encouraged by how we played tonight. In the first half, Clinton put a lot of pressure on us, and I thought we were able to handle that well. We didn’t get as lucky in the second half. They got some key turnovers and a lot of transition lay ups. The kids played hard tonight, and we have some things to work on as we prepare for Pender Friday.”

Leading scorers for Union were Carter Spearman with 17 points, Devin Henry with 10 points, CJ Thornton with 10 points.

Union will travel to Pender Friday to continue their conference play. Clinton will host West Bladen in a conference game Friday.
