The Seashell cast of “Little Mermaid. Jr.” performed three shows last weekend at the Sampson Community Theatre to sold out audiences who showed their appreciation with their applause, whistles and cheers.
Ariel (Melina Matthews) was super as was Sebastian (Zachary Lucas) while Ursula (Isabelle Moore) was convincingly mischievous. The scene changes were so quickly and seamlessly performed they were hardly noticed thanks to director Angela Martin training a great backstage crew so that dead time was eliminated. All in all the Seashell cast did themselves proud and entertained the audience until the curtains closed. SweetFrog is very happy that they are sponsoring a show that appeals to so many people and if you present your ticket stub to them, you will get a discount on your purchase of premium frozen yogurt.
The Sunshine cast of “Little Mermaid, Jr.” was in rehearsal this week and they were energetic and active as they tried to emulate or outdo the Seashell cast. Ariel (Stephanie Prestage) had bright red hair that seemed to glow even when the stage was darkened for scene changes. Sarah Day as Ursula put a lot of emotion into her singing and Judson Clark as Prince Eric became a hero by getting Ariel’s voice back. You are advised to get your tickets early at Inkspot or Matthews Gifts and get to the theater early to pick out the seat you want. If you get to the theater late you may not get a ticket and even if you do you will have to take a seat somewhere less than optimal. Get your tickets early and get to the theater early are the words of the day.
The 9th Annual SCT Theatre Camp was held this past week. This camp was a fun and entertaining way to learn about theatre and performance. Not only did the 21 campers learn new theatre terms, how to act, how to speak loudly and plainly, etc. but also other facets of live theater. Jarred Bennett assisted Angela Martin and the camp ended Thursday about 12:30 p.m. with a performance for the friends and families by the campers who wore t-shirts with “The Florist & Antiques at Warsaw’ emblazoned on the back as a thank you for their sponsorship. You will see many of these youngsters on the big stage in the years to come.
