Tonight, April 11 at 8 p.m., the long awaited “Barefoot in the Park,” the comedy written by Neil Simon, will have its first of six performances on the big stage of the Sampson Community Theatre.

Paul Bratter (Nick Owen)and Corie Bratter (Erica Miller) are newlyweds in every sense of the word. He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find-too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job. After a six day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother (Gretta Steffens) and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic Velasco (Gary Wilson), where everything that can go wrong, does. Paul just doesn’t understand Corie as she sees it. He’s too staid, unadventurous, too boring and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous, running in “Barefoot in the Park” would be a start.

Due to illness of a cast member the director called for help and Bruce Creech answered the call to be a telephone repairman and has had to acquaint himself with the script on rather short notice, but he is a trouper and will be ready by Friday night. Don’t see this show if you have no sense of humor unless you want to change because this show will have you chuckling before you know it and you will hate yourself in the morning.

We thank Dwight Horne at Clinton Appliance and Furniture for sponsoring and providing set furniture for this production.

We are proud to announce that a sponsor for “Grease” has stepped forward and joined our select group of sponsors. Performance Dodge, a relatively new business in town, has agreed to back the fabulous production of “Grease” which is scheduled to have eight performances in June. Thank you Performance Dodge!!!!

Thoughts until next week

• If you have not often felt the joy of doing a kind act, you have neglected much, and most of all yourself.

• A day dawns, quite like other days; in it, a single hour comes, quite like other hours; but in that day and in that hour the chance of a lifetime faces us.

• Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.
