A black bear was seen roaming the streets of Roseboro Friday morning, and residents took action hoping to get the bear picked up by Wildlife agents.
“At 11:30 a.m. this morning I looked outside after a neighbor called me saying she had seen a black bear,” said Anna Caldwell in an interview Friday. Tonya Ivey called Caldwell and told her that the bear was in the West’s yard.
“The bear was outside in her yard, across the street from my house,” she said. “She knew I had small kids over here so she wanted to make sure they were inside and safe.”
“I looked outside and he was gone,” Caldwell said. “Tonya Ivey texted me a picture of the bear in the neighbor’s yard.” Caldwell said that the Wildlife agents were called to pick up the bear.
No one with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, NC Highway Patrol or the town of Roseboro knew any details about the sighting. A call placed to the NC Wildlife Commission’s Wildlife Biologist for Sampson County was not returned as of press time.
