Under beautiful blue skies, and with a gentle breeze blowing, Sampson Community College Foundation donors were given a rousing thank you for the generous gifts they provide to the college and its students on Sept. 17.

Gathering with college staff, Foundation members, SCC trustees and student ambassadors, the donors were treated to a night of soothing music, good food and an abundance of appreciation for their contributions at the home of Lew and Ericka Starling. The Clinton mayor, who is also a past president of the SCC Foundation, said he and his wife were thrilled to host an event to thank the donors.

Turlington concurred.

“We are so grateful for their support of the college,” said Lisa Turlington, SCC Foundation executive director, of both the donors and the Starlings, also contributors to the Foundation’s giving campaigns.

This year, the Foundation saw both growth in contributions and expansion of its donor base, a win-win for students who benefit from the scholarships awarded because of those donations.

Foundation giving co-chairman Steve Stefanovich and SCC Student Government Association president Tracy Kirkland touched on that during remarks they made at the annual Donor Appreciation reception, with Kirkland, a VFW and Foundation scholarship recipient, sharing her personal story with those in attendance, offering her thanks for the difference it has made in her life.

“It was a great night,” Turlington said.
