“Shaggin’ for Santa” is a wonderful community event first organized by Robert Stroud, Ray Boyette and the Clinton Jacyees. In partnership with Sampson County Department of Aging Grandparents raising Grandchildren Program, Robert Stroud of Boogie Shoes Production continues the event and has designed a unique experience that allows the community to be a part of efforts to help share the true spirit of Christmas with children in need.

The event will be held at the Oasis Restaurant on Friday, Nov. 22, from 6 until 9 p.m. There will be dancing, fun, food, drinks and memorable fellowship with others. The cover charge for Shaggin’ for Santa is $10. Financial donations are also welcomed, checks are to be payable to Sampson County Department of Aging. One hundred precent of all proceeds will go directly to the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program.

The staff at the Department of Aging says that they are in awe of the annual work that Mr. Stroud does for these kids and for the outpouring of the community. Last year it was short of a miracle with the number of families who were helped and how the community came together to help others less fortunate.

Lorie Sutton, director of the Department of Aging, says, “We are thankful for what Mr. Stroud is doing for Grandparents who are raising their grandchildren or great grandchildren. Without him and the outpouring of support from the community, we would not be able to help make their Christmas Day a little brighter. Most parents want their child to have a good…no, a great Christmas – memorable if nothing else. Grandparents are no different. In most cases however, they have a more difficult task. Due to limited resources, making this a dream for their grandchildren come true is nearly impossible. Financial and health issues hinder some grandparents from not only purchasing gifts, but also shopping for these gifts can bring great challenges.

Other ways to help with this project include the following – A Christmas tree will be set up at the Big Blue Store in Clinton with “wish lists” attached. You can choose a gift tag that will list the sex and age of a child and their “wish list.’ You can also make donations directly to Sampson County Department of Aging, 405 County Complex Road; Suite 140, Clinton, NC 28328.

All gifts and donations will need to be made by Dec. 6.
