Cage and Ben Bullard will provide the entertainment for the 2013 Duplin County Hall of Fame Banquet. The banquet will be held November 7th at the Country Squire in Kenansville at 6:30 pm. Both young men play the violin (AKA the “fiddle”) and are the sons of Brian Bullard and Elaine Mejia of Faison.
Cage Bullard is 9 years old and a third-grader at North Duplin Elementary. Cage began playing the violin when he was 5 years old and quickly excelled. He plays in various bluegrass jam sessions throughout eastern North Carolina, has appeared several times on the radio and competed in the National Fiddler’s Convention young fiddler’s competition in 2012 and 2013. One of Cage’ special musical talents is his ability to improvise – to create new, original versions of classic bluegrass and old-time country songs. Cage’s other interests include reading, Cub Scouts, geography, biking, swimming, and clogging.
Ben is 6 years old and a first-grader at North Duplin Elementary. Ben began playing at age 4 and is quickly catching up to his older brother. Ben also joins in at local jam sessions, performed at the 2013 National Fiddler’s Convention in Virginia, entertains patrons at local restaurants and plays for the Sunday crowd at Faison Presbyterian Church. Ben’s other hobbies include reading, drawing, Cub Scouts, T-Ball, basketball, swimming and clogging.
Cage and Ben are fortunate to have an excellent instructor, Mr. Danny Arnette, of Goldsboro. Arnette will be accompanying the boys at the Duplin County Hall of Fame Banquet. Cage and Ben also benefit from a musical family environment. Their mother and grandmother play the violin; both of their grandfathers play the guitar and sing, and their other grandmother plays the piano.
