This week, Sampson Community College showed how valuable input from the community is when moving forward in its mission to educate the next generation of entrepreneurs and employees in Sampson County and abroad.
SCC held its Advisory Committee night at the college cafeteria in front of a packed crowd.
Dr. Jay Gillispie, vice president of Academic Affairs at the community college, put together the event. “This event is always important because it allows us to gain a perspective from off-campus a little bit and allows us to stay current on local needs and ideas” said Gillispie. “It fosters community input in the decision making process.”
During the event, representatives from each division at the college made presentations regarding the operation and success of each division before breaking off into smaller groups for more localized discussions about each area.
Lisa Turlington, SCC’s Foundation director, said she was proud that the Foundation was able to sponsor the reception and host the event. “ It is an opportunity for community leaders across many disciplines to learn more about the college so they can be better ambassadors for Sampson Community College” said Turlington.
