Midway lost a heart breaker at Pender Friday evening on the softball field. Midway lost on a Pender walk-off in the bottom of the 8th inning. The score was tied at 4 after the normal 7th inning, before Pender eventually captured the win in a dramatic way.

Pender struck first with a run in the 2nd inning, before Midway took a 2-1 lead in the 4th. Pender scored 2 in the fifth, Midway scored 2 in the 7th, and Pender scored 1 in the 7th to send the game to extra innings before ultimately winning the game.

Madison Bryant went 2-4 for Midway with 2 RBIs, Savannah Bullins had 2 RBIs, and Hannah Hubbard, Kelsey Pondo, Hayley West, and Kayla McLean each had hits for Midway.

Brittany Watson pitched all 8 innings, the second straight complete game for her. She allowed 3 earned runs.

“We just didn’t hit the ball tonight. It’s so tough to win ball games when you’re not hitting the ball. It’s a tough one, but we’ll try to come back and be ready to go against Clinton on Tuesday,” Midway’s coach Leigh Ann Smith said.

Midway will host Clinton Tuesday evening in Spivey’s Corner.
