Greetings to all my readers and friends! Today is Monday Jan. 28 and it is so nice outside, beautiful! All I can hear inside is snow reports, I do believe it is coming this time. Be ye ready! I spent today at the Westbrook Nutrition Site; it was a pleasure to visit old friends and get acquainted with new folks. Just to experience what other centers do on a daily basis is a great help with new ideas and new and different activities. A salute to all of you that helped me so much. I look forward to visiting with all again.

A special hello to Mr. Herman and Mr. David, a special thanks for serving our country in World War II. Thank you Garland seniors for carrying on in my absence. I hear the prayer breakfast was a blast. Special thanks to the Rev. Roy Hilburn. These folks talk like you put the Gospel word on! The Rev. Hilburn will conduct prayer breakfast the last Monday in every month at 9:45 a.m. Please join us.

Because of the severe weather many of our programs had to change dates. Weatherization will be here Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. Judy, Ms. Sampson County, will be with us Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. Come join us for a full day of fun. You will be amazed at what our seniors can do. Remember “you don’t get old because you play, you get old because you quit playing.” Chair exercises with Marie and Richard will begin on Feb. 7. Marie and Richard are certified Arthritis Chair Exercise Leaders, leading exercises with moves that all ages can do.

Lately I have been reading a lot about homemade remedies, using what is in your pantry. I learned some from the Shade Tree days — baking soda, Epsom salt, cinnamon, all-spice, peroxide, vinegar, honey, lemon, the list goes on. What money we can save if we used what we have in the house. When I was growing up, it was home remedies, not trips to the doctor! It was Cod Liver Oil or Castor Oil, sometimes we took both, and oh it taste so bad. My friend Mr. Garfield Cromartie said he takes an aspirin and two Cod Liver pills everyday.

Words to live by, “A snowball in the face is surely the perfect beginning to a lasting friendship.” Rob Lowe once said, “A few years ago I got to a point where I realized that the only way you can tell someone’s age is how they live their life. The candle on the cake means absolutely nothing.” Remember it is mind set, “Age is just numbers.” “There is nothing like a beauty makeover to lift the spirit of a woman, no matter what her age,” said Oprah Winfrey. A.A. Miline said, “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.”

We are closing early, and I have to end my article in remember we are blessed and highly favored by God. Keep connected to The Shade Tree of Life.
