I wanted to use my Thanksgiving column to thank God for our servicemen and servicewomen currently overseas, for the veterans who live in our communities, for our teachers and safety officers for the sacrifices they make to keep us safe and for all those who help make District 10 one of the best places to live in North Carolina. From my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
I also wanted to bring your attention to an exciting new program that Monsanto is bringing to North Carolina. America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders Program is a new pilot college scholarship program that offers a $1,500 college scholarship to students studying agriculture. From now through Feb. 1st, eligible students can apply and two $1,500 scholarships will be given out per eligible crop reporting district (see below).
Part of the application is students must have the endorsement of 3 farmers. The application process is administered through the National FFA Scholarship program, but students do not need to be a member of FFA to apply and farmers do not need to be a customer of Monsanto in order to endorse. If you are interested, please visit www.americasfarmers.com.
The eligible crop reporting districts and counties in North Carolina are as follows: CRD 10: Yadkin; CRD 50: Iredell, Rowan; CRD 60: Stanly, Union; CRD 70: Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Edgecombe, Gates, Halifax, Hertford, Martin, Nash, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell, Washington; CRD 80: Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Greene, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, Pamlico, Pitt, Wayne, Wilson; CRD 90: Bladen, Columbus, Cumberland, Duplin, Harnett, Hoke, Onslow, Pender, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland.
As always, when you call or email my office, you normally speak with a member of my staff. I want to assure you that I read each and every email that is sent to my legislative account and my staff provides detailed records of phone calls.
