Lush and ripe


Local photographer Kelly Jones provided this photograph of a juicy fig, plucked from a tree near Kitty Fork on High House Road, Clinton. The fig tree, Jones noted, is 30 years old. It is at the home of my her father’s Aunt Catheline Cannady. On Friday, he picked five pounds of the luscious figs. Figs come from the mulberry family and in this case the fig tree and is an important crop in areas where it is grown commercially. It is native to the Middle East and western Asia but it is widely grown now throughout the world.
