KENANSVILLE — The James Sprunt Foundation hosted its 28th Annual Golf Tournament on Oct. 3 at River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, raising over $19,000 towards student scholarships. Major tournament sponsors were the James Sprunt Foundation Board of Directors and Murphy Brown LLC.
Twenty-eight teams played in the tournament in support of the James Sprunt Foundation and James Sprunt Community College in its major fundraising event of the year. The purpose of the tournament is to raise funds for scholarships for deserving JSCC students.
“We are grateful to all those who have volunteered their time and energy to make this a successful tournament,” said Dr. Lawrence Rouse, JSCC president. “The funds raised by our Foundation Golf Tournament as well as other efforts have a great impact on whether or not many of our students can attend or remain at JSCC and complete their programs of study.”
With a score of 55, first place went to the Cas-Mec Services Team with Charles Sumner, Todd Phillips, Pete Melville, and Mike Melville. Each player received a $100 cash prize. With a score of 56, second place was taken by the Landen Farms, Inc. with Jeff Landen, Tom Turner, Mike Bye and Denis Winters. Each player received a $50 cash prize.
Rob Cook had the longest drive. Closest to the pin were Herman Kight and Dan Ellis. Each of these winners received a dozen Callaway Hex Warbird Balls.
In the raffle drawing, Stanley Williams won a gift basket from the River Landing Pro Shop and Floyd Adams won 4 rounds of golf at River Landing. Michael Graham won the 50/50 shoot out contest, taking home $345.
The James Sprunt Community College Team with Larry Addison, Bill Fitzgerald, Alan Fitzgerald and Shade Dawson won the team putting contest receiving $45 each.
