Clinton’s varsity baseball team traveled to Midway on Thursday night and were greeted by a hot hitting home team. Midway won the game in 6 innings, 11-1. The Raiders opened the scoring in the home half of the first, quickly posting two runs and taking the early lead. The Raiders would never look back.
Clinton was able to scratch out a run in the top of the second when Bailey Spell scored the visitors lone run. Midway’s pitching gathered a full head of steam and shut down the Dark Horse bats for the rest of the evening. Midway added 3 runs in the second, four in the bottom of the fifth and closed out the Dark Horses with 2 more runs in the sixth inning.
Dylan Hardison did the work on the mound for the Raiders, pitching 5 innings, allowing only one run. Matthew Barefoot closed out the game for Midway.
Coach Thornton commented after the game that “he was proud of his team’s effort but that they would have to cut down errors to compete against a good team like Midway.”
Midway coach, Jason Fussell, was pleased with his team’s performance saying that “the pitching staff performed well on the mound.” While they did not hit the ball throughout the game as he would like, they “ran the bases aggressively and were able to take advantage of several Clinton errors.”
Midway is now 5-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
