Midway’s Lady Raider softball team overcame a sluggish start to put away the visiting Dark Horses on Thursday evening. Midway got the win, 16-6.

Clinton came out of the gates early with Callie Sumner leading off with a bunt single and two stolen bases to quickly get into scoring position. Sumner plated the first run of the game giving Clinton a 1-0 lead. Midway evened the score in their half of the first, but were unable to take the lead, leaving two base runners stranded.

The Dark Horses extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the third scratching out several hits and capitalizing on a Midway throwing error to plate a couple of runs. The Horses continued to hold a lead over the home team until the fourth inning, when Midway blew the game open with an inside-the-park grand slam by Emily Hairr.

Brittany Watson was the winning pitcher for Midway.

Clinton’s coach, Ashley Slater, was pleased with her teams performance, saying that “the team showed signs of real progress tonight, both at the plate and in the field.” She continued stating that “there were several times early in the game when Midway had base runners and our girls came up with nice defensive plays to get out of innings”.

Midway stats were unavailable, as well as coach’s comments.

The Dark Horses were led by Callie Sumner and Susan Jones with two hits each, Paige Tatum Madison Mitchell, Kristen Glasper, and Sydney Simmons all rapped out extra base hits. Madison Mitchell, DeAsia Edwards and Kristen Glasper handled the pitching duties for the Horses with Mitchell taking the loss.
