Midway Middle School earned two wins on the baseball diamond this week, as they defeated Sampson Middle, and Hobbton Middle.
Against Sampson, Carson Calcutt was the winning pitcher, going 4 1/3, striking out 11. Austin Peterson pitched the last 2/3 of the game, as Midway won the game early, 18-6.
Midway then took on the Hobbton Wildcats, and got a 12-2 win. Peterson started this game on the hill, and pitched 5 innings, striking out 9. Jaron Register pitched the last inning, striking out a batter.
Offensively, Midway was led by Reed Grady, who was 1-1 with a run scored; Jaron Register went 2-3 with 2 runs scored; Trevor Hobson was 1-2 with 2 runs scored; Austin Peterson was 1-4 with an inside the park home-run; Chandler was 2-3; Colby Pope went 1-4; Donte Lindsay was 1-3 with 2 runs scored; and Dawson McLamb was 2-4 with 2 runs scored.
“Hobbton’s pitcher pitched well. We finally were able to get our timing down later in the game, and we were lucky enough to make the best of some of Hobbton’s mistakes. Our pitching continues to keep us going so far this season,” said Midway’s head coach Steven Tyler.
Midway now travels to RSMS in a match-up that will feature two unbeaten teams. The game is Monday afternoon at RSMS.
