Clinton’s Tennis team won both Four County Conference tournament singles and doubles titles on Wednesday in matches played at Clinton High School. Daniel Ko won the singles title and Aaron Viser/Conner Bass won the doubles. Ko defeated West Bladen’s Mike Labra 7-5, 6-1 and then defeated West Bladen’s Luke Taylor 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the title. Viser/Bass defeated a pair of West Bladen’s doubles teams to win their title, losing only one game in two matches to run their overall record to 10-1 as a team this year.
Clinton’s other singles player, Corey Gilpin, lost his first round match to 2nd place finisher Luke Taylor of West Bladen 6-3, 6-4 in a hard-fought match. Clinton’s other doubles team, Jared Hall/Tyler Kersey finished third in tourney, defeating West Bladen’s three doubles team to get the last regional spot.
Daniel Ko, Viser/Bass, and Hall/Kersey all advance to the Mideast 2A Regional in Reidsville May 2nd and 3rd. The team returns to action next Wednesday in a match against Cape Fear to prepare for their first round dual team match April 29th.
