For firefighters, there is probably no greater need than having the best and most up-to-date equipment around. It is vital in protecting them and ensuring they, in turn, protect those in harm’s way.
That’s why it is troubling when local volunteer fire departments find themselves in dire need.
Such is the case with the Roseboro Fire Department which is hoping, through fundraisings, to garner enough money to replace several sets of turnout gear his firefighters currently utilize when a fire call goes out.
A full set of turnout gear includes a coat, gloves, pants, suspenders, boots, a helmet and a mask. Cost to replace that group of items hovers around $2,000, a hefty price tag for a volunteer unit to undertake.
But with the community’s help, we believe it can be done.
Over the next several months, the Roseboro group will hold fundraisers to pay for needed gear. When those events come up, we sincerely hope residents will support them, giving back to a department and a staff that so willingly answers the call, day or night, to assist others.
Knowing our Sampson community, there’s no doubt the Roseboro Fire Department will find itself beneficiary of the equipment it needs.
