Hobbton rolled into the ‘Dog pen Monday night hoping to bring down No. 1 seeded Wallace-Rose Hill, but it was not to be, as the Bulldogs showed their soccer prowess once again, shutting out the visiting Wildcats 5-0.

Coach Bryan Martinez said his Wildcats simply didn’t play up to their potential.

“Wallace is good, but my guys weren’t playing like I think they can play, not at all. I don’t know what was wrong with them. You can’t do that, though, when you are playing a team like Wallace,” Martinez stressed.

Martinez said he was disappointed with the way the Hobbton squad played. “They just lost it.”

Wallace, the coach said, played a strong game. “They certainly played better than we did, but again, we didn’t play like we can.”

The loss puts Hobbton’s No. 2 rank in the Tri-County Conference in jeopardy, with the final determination dependent on how James Kenan’s Tigers played Monday.

Hobbton plays host to cross-county rival Midway during its final regular season game Wednesday, which is also the Wildcat senior night.

“We’ve got to come out ready to play,” Martinez said. “We’ve got to get it together.”
