It took two overtimes, but Hobbton’s varsity Wildcats got the 66-63 win over Princeton Tuesday night, moving their record to 4-2.

The road win, coach Jeff Byrd said, was a sweet one for he and his team.

“This was a total team effort. Everyone stepped up. We were shooting better, taking advantage of the opportunities. It was just a great game.”

Hobbton lead after one 15-8 and took a 28-24 lead into the half, but a determined home team came back fighting, and Princeton took the lead at 35-34 going into the fourth quarter.

Princeton was up 50-48 with only four seconds remaining in the game. That’s when Hobbton’s Justin Armwood got a steal on an out-of-bounds pass to make the game-scoring shot and send it into the first of two overtimes.

In the end, Hobbton came away victorious.

“We played outstanding defense, and really, an overall good game,” Byrd said.

Leading scoring for Hobbton Tuesday was Jonathan Faison with 21 points, Rashaad Davis, 17; and Armwood, 13.

Hobbton’s game with Spring Creek Wednesday night wasn’t over by press time. See those results in Friday’s Sampson Independent and online at www.clintonnc.com.
