An argument that began after a 27-year-old Clinton man was accused of stealing a computer gaming system led to that man being sent to the hospital.

According to information released Wednesday from the Clinton Police Department, 27-year-old Shawnata Costin, of East Carter Street, received a minor stab wound to his leg on Saturday, Sept. 22, after he got into a heated argument with another man who accused Costin of stealing his Wii game system. Costin has denied the allegation.

Clinton police Chief Jay Tilley said Costin and the unidentified man got into the argument around 8 p.m. in the Darden Street area. “The game system had been stolen about a month back,” he said. “For some reason, the suspect believed Costin took it and they began arguing.”

At some point in the argument, the suspect pulled out a knife and began swinging it. “Mr. Costin got away from the suspect and ran home,” Tilley explained. “He didn’t realize it, but he had been cut in the leg. He was taken to the hospital and treated and released.”

No arrests have been made in the incident, Tilley said. “Mr. Costin will have to go to the Magistrate’s Office and take out the warrants,” he added. “As of today, it hasn’t been done.”
