I wish the same type of justice had been done in the case of Michael Smith, who was murdered. His perpetrator was only given 4 years in prison. So does this mean that the life of a black male is less valuable than the life of a white female? Help me understand, Michael Smith shooting was intentional, not accidental, however all Dewey Hudson could give the murderer was 4 years? I just feel that justice needs to be equally served, regardless of race. Furthermore, interestingly I know someone who had to spend almost $800 for a lawyer, after being locked up for driving with no driver's license, when he wan't even driving. The officer abused his power by first locking this person up for no reason at all, second, was willing to lie in court stating that he saw the individual driving, when the person was not. The lawyer recommended however that this individual plea guilty to driving as he felt that the court would rule in favor of the officer because he was willing to stand in court, dressed in his uniform and swear a lie on the Holy Bible. Where is the justice here? I have learned that although some of us make efforts to bury the past history of racism, it will always exist. It is a natural thing to be aware of your differences, to somehow feel prideful of who you are, but it is a horrible thing to feel superior to others because they are different. The truth here is that racism is very much alive, and situations like this prove this to be true. However, on this current posting, nothing excuses what Lamar Smith did, he should be punished for his actions, but so should every other person, regardless of their race, color, creed. Consistence needs to be the key factor here.
