The Clinton JV Dark Horse football team picked up a 40-8 victory over the Northside Monarchs Thursday night at home.

Clinton’s Hyson Howard scored the first touchdown of the night after just one minute into the game. A PAT put the Horses up 7-0.

An interception by Kavon Dessus, set the stage for another Dark Horse touchdown courtesy of a successful pass by Wade Sumner. With 9:45 minutes left, Clintons score would rise to 13-0.

Sumner scored his third touchdown of the night with 1:25 left in the first, putting Clinton way ahead 20-0.

Continuing into the second quarter, the Clinton defense smashed the Monarchs to the ground as they attempted to reach the end zone. The Monarchs were held on that possession.

With 2:30 left until the half, RayQuan Faison rushed the ball down the field, only to score on the next play from scrimmage, putting Clinton up 26-0.

After the break, Clinton’s Tyree Payton started the third quarter off with another touchdown. As the Monarchs got ready to make a play, Dark Horse Hyson Howard recovered a fumbled ball from the Monarchs to score a touchdown. After the PAT, Clinton was up 40-0.

Northside scored their first points of the night on a successful drive that ended in a touchdown and 2-point conversion just inside the fourth quarter.

Although the Monarchs were on a long drive in the closing minutes, Clinton’s defense snagged a pick and secured the win.

Considering the overall effect of the game, Coach Mike Bell says ” Overall it was an excellent game,” said head coach Mike Bell. “We are going to South Lenior on a high note for the Conference Championship. I am very proud and blessed to coach these boys.”

The Dark Horse JV will open up their next game away at South Lenior, Thursday October 25, at 6:30 p.m.
