For Sampson County Parks & Recreation, volunteers are important to their programs. Without parents and members in the community willing to volunteer their time, SCPR’s programs wouldn’t have the coaches to meet their steadily rising amount of participants.
For the month of January, SCPR would like to highlight the efforts of the Northern (Midway) District’s coach, Neil Baggett. The staff of Parks & Recreation nominated Neil because of his outstanding efforts as a coach and volunteer. Neil currently coaches the Northern Alabama, 10-12 year old basketball team, for the 2013 basketball season. Neil has been a part of Sampson County Parks & Recreation’s list of coaches and volunteers for several years now.
When asked why Neil volunteers for Sampson County Parks & Recreation, he replied, “I volunteer my time so I can have the opportunity to coach my own children. It also gives me a chance to meet new people and make a difference in my community”. He was also asked what his most memorable moment as a volunteer was in which he said, “Each moment is special when I see a child accomplish things on the field or court that they didn’t think they could do.” Amanda Herring, Northern District Superintendent also commented, “Neil has been a great coach for my district and I appreciate the hard work and effort he puts in coaching teams for us.”
Sampson County Parks & Recreation would like to thank Neil Baggett for all he has done so far for the department, athletes, and parents and everything he will continue to do.
