The Lady Leopards poured on the points in the final four minutes against Southern Wayne to pull off their second win of the season 54-45.

Southern Wayne was ahead at the first quarter mark 11-15, and the two teams were tied at 22 at intermission. By the end of the third quarter, Lakewood was down by four.

With just four minutes left in the game, the Lady Leps were down by 8 points when suddenly someone lit a fire under them, and the varsity girls went on a 17-0 tear to win by 9.

“We pulled it out in the end. Southern Wayne really didn’t play that great, we just didn’t play good. It was ugly,” a relieved Lakewood head coach Lofton Kerr said after the game.

“Our free throws really helped us out at the end when they started fouling us. Brittney Boykin scored 7 out of 10 and Bianca Moore hit all five of her free throws. We’ve been working on that in practice and they really did a great job,” Kerr added.

Leading scorer for the team was senior Tasha Rich with 17 points and five rebounds. Boykin had 15 points; Moore, 9 points; and Teisha Rich, 11 points and 8 rebounds.

On Monday, Lakewood hosts Clinton. Last year, the Lady Dark Horses gave the Leopards their one and only loss on the regular season. “Monday is a big game for us and we’re looking forward to it,” the Lakewood coach said confidently.
