Horses get home win over Croatan

The Clinton Dark Horse varsity boys got a home victory against Croatan Tuesday night with a final score of 54-49, with he battle for the win coming down to the last seconds of the game.

The Horses had a rough start and stayed behind in the first quarter. By the frame’s end the visitors were up 11-8 .

Hoping the second quarter would be better, the Horses continued to fight, only to be left behind again by a 5-point lead from Croatan. With halftime arriving, the Horses ended the first half of the night down 23-18.

Staying in there, the Horses tried their best to keep fighting. Not losing hope, Ryan Chester led his team down the court multiple times to score. Although Croatan ended the third quarter with a 10-point lead, the score being 36-26, Clinton knew what they had to do to win this game.

Not giving up, the Horses jogged back onto the court for the last quarter of the game with hopes of a comeback. With Shian Bradshaw on a dunk, the fans cheered the Horses on and raised their spirits to play hard. Sticking to their instincts ,the Horses kept going. Thaxter Spruill provided Clinton with another dunk with 25 seconds left on the night.

“The boys started off slow tonight, but they are the kind of team to never give up on each other. They played with a lot of heart and believed in each other. We’d have to thank our fans for that also, they do a lot for us” said Clinton coach Randy Jordan.

Ending the game with a score of 54-49, the Horses took home the win with only seconds left to spare for their victory. Leading scorers were Ryan Chester with 16 points, Bradshaw with 8 points, Demontio Bryant with 7 points, and Thaxter Spruill with 7 points.

Clinton’s next game will be Friday, Feb. 1, at the home of the Swansboro Pirates at 6 p.m.
