The Leopards shut out the Pender Patriots on senior night Monday, winning the soccer match 4-0.

A pleased coach Jay Faircloth said his team was up for the game, giving the four Leopard seniors something to celebrate. They are Waylon Herwy, Lucas Dudley, DeVante’ Williams and Domanick Williamson.

“They did it for the seniors tonight,” Faircloth stressed. “The atmosphere here was just that we were going to win regardless. We started off slow, but then I realized it was our formation. (Senior) DeVante’ Williams played a heck of a game at midfield. (Goalie) Pate Holland stepped up his game and got his first shut out. All the boys stepped up this week. We had a good practice Friday and now hopefully we can finish strong,” he stated proudly.

The two teams seemed evenly matched until around the 16-minute mark when the Leopards changed their formation and began dominating the ball. Within a minute, Lakewood was on the scoreboard after Sadi Zabala hit the back of the net from an assist by Joe Williams.

The Leopards scored again at 3:16,and this time it was Williams who kicked the ball into the net.

About midway the second half the Leopards connected again on a pass from Zabala to Jonathan Gonzales for a score. With one minute showing on the clock, Williams scored again from an assist by Williamson.

The Leopards head to Spartan Country on Wednesday. They come back to Lakewood Thursday for their final game of the season, which is a make-up game against Trask.

This is the second time the Leopards have beaten the Patriots this season, making them 3-9 in conference play.
