Midway Middle hosted the Wildcats of Hobbton Tuesday in soccer action with the Wildcats coming away with a 9-2 victory.
With seven minutes gone in the match, Jair Sanchez scored off a Christian Vega pass to open up the scoring. Two minutes later, Evaristo Herrera scored from the left side, hitting the post and ricocheting in off a pass from Sanchez.
Brandon Rodriguez found the net for the Raiders after a Jonathan Wood pass to cut the lead in half. But the Wildcats responded with two more goals before the half. The first came five minutes later when Gustavo Ventura scored a header off a Johnathan Mejia corner kick.
Four minutes later, Kevin Montes scored unassisted from the top of the penalty box. “I thought we played better defensively this game. Irvin Castillo, Larry Favela, Jose Arriaga, and Mejia all stepped up,” said Hobbton coach Damon Burnett.
Hobbton went on the attack to open the second half, scoring six minutes into it when Sanchez got his second goal from 20 yards unassisted. Two minutes later, Cesar Castillo scored off a corner kick from Mejia. Ten minutes later, Castillo would score again off a pass from Jesus Lopez. Antonio Benitez hit the back of the net two minutes later following a deflected shot. Vega then scored with four minutes to go to for Hobbton’s final goal.
With one minute to go, Rafael Guzmon scored for the Raiders.
Hobbton’s next game is Thursday at home verses Sampson Middle.
Hobbton’s record improves to 4-1.
Midway’s next game is Thursday at Roseboro-Salemburg. Both games are 4pm.
